Connect your own domain

Which plans: Plus and Pro

Open your ProSeen page on a domain you own, such as yourname.com, as well as at proseen.me/yourname.

Before you start

  • Plan: Plus and Pro.
  • A domain you already own. ProSeen doesn't sell domains.
  • The sign-in for the company where you bought the domain, so you can add DNS records there.

Connect your domain

  1. Open your Dashboard.
  2. Select My page.
  3. Select Design.
  4. Find the card called Your own address.
  5. In Your domain, type your domain, such as yourname.com.
  6. Select Connect domain. ProSeen shows a table of DNS records.
  7. In a new tab, sign in at the company where you bought the domain.
  8. Open its DNS settings.
  9. Add each record from the table with the same Type, Name and Value.
  10. Save the records there.
  11. Come back to ProSeen and select Check now.
  12. When the status says Live, open your domain to see your page.

Which records you'll see

  • A main domain, such as yourname.com, yourname.co.uk or yourname.com.pk, gets an A record named @. The www version forwards to it, so www.yourname.com reaches your page too.
  • A subdomain, such as page.yourname.com, gets a CNAME record.
  • Sometimes an extra verification record appears. Add it as well; the check needs it.

What the status means

  • Waiting for DNS: the records aren't in place yet, or haven't spread yet.
  • Problem: the domain couldn't be added. Select Check now and read the message that appears.
  • Live: your page answers on your domain.

Change to a different domain

  1. On the Your own address card, select Use a different domain.
  2. In New domain, type the new domain.
  3. Select Switch domain.
  4. Add the new records at your domain company.
  5. Come back and select Check now.
  6. Once the new domain is live, remove the old domain's records at your domain company.

Your old domain keeps working until the new one is connected. To stop using a domain, select Disconnect and then remove its records at your domain company. A page has one domain at a time.

What happens next

  • Your proseen.me address keeps working the whole time.
  • Visitors on your domain see your page, and your extra pages at addresses like yourname.com/portfolio. Signing in and everything else stays on proseen.me.
  • A domain can be connected to one ProSeen page only.
  • If your plan stops including your own domain, visitors to it are sent to your proseen.me page. Your domain can show your page again once you move to Plus or Pro and it's still connected.

If something goes wrong

  • “Not yet”: DNS changes usually take a few hours to reach everywhere, sometimes up to 48. Wait a while and select Check now again.
  • Keep your email working: only add the records in the table. Don't delete other records at your DNS company, especially ones named MX, SPF, DKIM or DMARC: they deliver your email.
  • Still waiting after a few hours: compare each record with the table. Type, name and value must match exactly. If your DNS company adds your domain to the name by itself, enter the name just as the table shows it.
  • “That domain is already connected to another page”: disconnect it from the other page first, or write to us.
  • “Enter a domain you own”: check the spelling, and type only the domain, such as yourname.com.
  • “Custom domains are being switched on”: come back to this a little later.
